Apps Uncovered Friday 24 February 2012
This week iPC has a very special guest selector for Apps Uncovered; Florida based iPhoneographer Jaime Ferreyros.

Jaime has been here since the beginning of "iPhoneography time" and was – and still is – a huge inspiration to me when I was finding my feet in the wonderful world of iPhone art and photography. Jaime's work makes great use of saturated colours often portraying the beach scenes played out in his native Miami. You can check out more of Jaime's work at the bottom of this feature.
I am extremely honoured to have Jaime curate our Apps Uncovered gallery this week and I hope you enjoy his selections as well as a few thoughts on iPhoneography…
A few words from Jaime
"Iphoneography to me is photography – and the apps, if anything, are there to enhance the storytelling behind the image, and not the other way around. Back in 2009 when this whole movement started, what really surprised people when they went to an exhibit or saw a print is they couldn’t tell apart a photo taken with an iphone from a DSLR. They could relate and appreciate this new art form much more because everyone takes pictures. The apping back then was used to better tell a story, and not so much about mastering the app, which might then become more of a graphic design type of work. Both are valid and equally beautiful, but I’m and old fashion type of guy that really enjoys the balance you achieve of old school photography using today’s technology while working with the iphone camera.
I’ve never enjoyed the spotlight or talk about myself,
So thank you Iphoneography Central for letting me pick amongst the work of other artists whose creativity I enjoy."

Title: The KKK Took My Baby Away
She went away for the holidays
Said she's going to L.A.
But she never got there
She never got there
She never got there, they say
The KKK took my baby away
They took her away
Away from me
The KKK took my baby away
They took her away
Away from me"

The apps I used were Hipstamatic for the shopping baskets and 6x6 for my portrait. Limited Color, to get it that white color. I then used Filterstorm for selective blending on the two followed by Imageblender to blend the image a bit further. Next I then used FX Photo Studio for my words and PaintFX for the crumpled list. I finished the image with Modern Grunge.

Title: Grief
Yesterday, I learned an old friend took his own life. He was a brilliant soul who lived intensely and gave of himself generously to our country and to his friends. He was so encouraging of my photography and grew himself a garden just to take his own photos of butterflies. I just can't get my head around the pain he must have felt.
I couldn't think of anything more expressive of my sadness than what you see written here on my face.

A daughter looks upon the bed one more time before she buries her beloved father. He occupied a space much larger than the physical room.
Two parents are reminded that their daughter is no longer a child. She is far away dreaming up a life after college in her dorm room bed.
A man who used to be a Wall Street broker now works two minimum wage jobs just to pay rent on his modest apartment. On particularly long days all he can think about is comfort of his bed.
These are some of the stories of this empty room.
